The credits, and what it takes to use them

Up to $300 a year on paper. They only offset the fee to the extent you'd have spent that money anyway.

CreditHow it works
$300 annual Capital One Travel creditPrimary account holders get $300 each account year to use on purchases made through Capital One Travel (applied at checkout). Expires at the next account-open anniversary; no rewards earned on the portion paid by the credit. Counted when your own travel spend is at least the credit amount, on the assumption you'd book that much through the issuer's travel site. Book through the issuer's travel site.

Downgrade instead of closing: The issuer usually lets you product-change to the Capital One Venture, which keeps your account age and credit line. Ask before you cancel.
