The credits, and what it takes to use them

Up to $50 a year on paper. They only offset the fee to the extent you'd have spent that money anyway.

CreditHow it works
$50 annual airline statement creditEach year, a one-time $50 statement credit after the first airline purchase (merchant category 'airlines and air carriers') of at least $50. Charter and private jet flights are excluded. In year 1 it is available from account opening. After that, the 12-month period starts on the first day of the month after the annual fee is charged. Downgrade instead of closing: The issuer usually lets you product-change to the Wells Fargo Autograph or Wells Fargo Active Cash, which keeps your account age and credit line. Ask before you cancel.
